Mel Brooks and His Band of Merry Men
Lots of people have played Robin Hood . . . Douglas Fairbanks, Kevin Costner, even Rich Little did a version in the voice of Groucho Marx. But no one did it funnier than the underrated Dick Gautier in When Things Were Rotten. The short-lived sitcom was produced by Mel Brooks, and it had the best theme song ever. Tying One on with Tony Orlando and Dawn
April 3, 1975. Tony Orlando & Dawn debuted as a summer replacement for The Sonny And Cher Comedy Hour. It featured Orlando, who had previously given up singing to be an executive at Columbia Records, and his two backup singers, Joyce Vincent Wilson and Telma Hopkins. Fresh off a string of #1 hits: “Tie A Yellow Ribbon,” “Knock Three Times,” and “He Don’t Love You (Like I Love You),” the group topped the TV airwaves for three years. Hopkins went on to star in Bosom Buddies, Gimme A Break!, Family Matters, and Half & Half. Wilson along with her sister, Pamela Vincent, sings backup for Scherrie Payne of the 1970s version of the Supremes. And, Tony? He’s still performing in Branson and Vegas.

Let’s Do the Time Warp AgainMarch 11, 1974. The Time Warp came to Broadway when The Rocky Horror Show made its debut at the Belasco Theatre in New York City. Tim Curry revived his West End role as Dr. Frank-N-Furter, the sweet transvestite from Transsexual Transylvania. And rock singer Meat Loaf played dual roles as Eddie and Dr. Scott.
