Eric Clapton

Be aware that this double-disc set is exactly what it says it is, the start of the story when the plot hasn't yet been fully established. The first disc collects several of Eric Clapton's early Yardbirds sides, while the second disc is comprised of very early Rod Stewart performances, mostly with Long John Baldry, and while his vocal work is fine, as far as it goes, Stewart is still a long way from his distinctive abilities and persona in the Faces. Its possible that ardent collectors may want to pick up this box, but these tracks, both the ones by Stewart and the ones by Clapton, have been issued countless times in different packages. Both artists show glimmers of future glories here, particularly Clapton, but these remain nothing more than nascent tracks and timepiece curios. ~ Steve Leggett, All Music Guide
