The Supremes

A curiously titled album that is essentially a collection of post-Diana Ross & the Supremes recordings that include some Four Tops pairings. You would think all the tracks Mary Wilson led with the Supremes would be included, but they're not. If you're going to include Wilson's name in the title, they should be on here. Most of these cuts are familiar to all but there are some pleasant surprises like "Together We Can Make Such Sweet Music," recorded with the Four Tops, a song originally recorded by Joe Towns on Detroit's microscopic, short-lived Top Dog Records. Wilson sings in a sexy alto that can be heard oozing some enticing lines on the crackling, up-tempo "Floy Joy." Though she's credited in the title, Mary takes a back seat to Jean Terrell, who sings most of the leads. ~ Andrew Hamilton, All Music Guide
