Eric Clapton

There are numerous collections out that feature tracks from Eric Clapton's early years in the mid-'60s, when he played with John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers, and the Yardbirds, but what makes this one stand out is both its length (two discs) and the sequencing, which keeps things fresh and moving. Although Clapton went on to superstardom with Cream, Blind Faith, and his own subsequent solo stuff, he has returned again and again to the blues for inspiration, and never has he been so energetic, bright, and vital a player as at the start of his career. The five live tracks with the Yardbirds included here are a particular delight, and Jimmy Page guests on "Miles Road." ~ Steve Leggett, All Music Guide
