The Beatles

Released in a limited edition of 3,000 copies in the U.S., this boxed set contained the Beatles' 12 original albums as they were released in the U.K., plus a Rarities LP of songs that were rare in Britain, although not in the U.S. From an American perspective, it was an odd collection, since it contained the bulk of the Beatles recordings, but skipped many of their biggest hits, which were released in the U.K. only as singles. Nevertheless, it was a forward-looking release, in the sense that it anticipated the decision by Capitol to release the Beatles' albums in their U.K. form to CD in 1987. ~ William Ruhlmann, All Music Guide
