Devo

Back in the pre- MTV days, one of the first bands to get creative with promo videos (past just lip-synching on a sound stage) was Devo. By focusing on their warped sense of humor, and including thought-provoking images in their clips, Devo was definitely one of the groundbreakers of music videos. Having issued a few home video compilations back in the late '70s and early '80s (The Men Who Make the Music and We're All Devo), Devo decided to take a plunge into the short-lived laser disc market in the '90s with the career-spanning The Complete Truth About De-Evolution. With the laser disc format all but obsolete by the early 21st century, fans will be happy to learn that in late 2003, the Complete Truth was finally issued as a DVD. In addition to featuring almost all of their videos, including such must-see's as "Freedom of Choice," "Satisfaction," "Love Without Anger," "Peek A Boo," and "Whip It," there are a few rarely seen clips from later in their career "("Disco Dancer," "Post Post-Modern Man"), as well as DVD bonuses (audio commentary by Devo founders Mark Mothersbaugh and Gerald V. Casale, photos, etc.). If you're a serious Devo fan, your collection is not complete without The Complete Truth About De-Evolution. ~ Greg Prato, All Music Guide
