Strait to the Top
If there’s a more bankable cuss in music than George Strait, we’ll eat our hats. You’d need three CDs or a math degree to compile a treasury of #1s. His 56th overall, “I Saw God Today,” just finished Week 2 as Billboard Country champ. Tomorrow he performs twice on the Academy of Country Music Awards Show and might even collect a few statues as a three-time nominee. From 2002 here’s his fiftieth #1.

Hello. How Are Ya? We’re the Other Sweathogs.Sure, Travolta was dreamy. Who doesn’t love a dimpled chin? But you weren’t the only Sweathog in the locker room. Where would you be without Horshack, Epstein, Boom Boom Washington, and Mr. Kah-tare himself? Remember them and be thankful next time you power up your 707. Up your nose with a rubber hose, Barbarino!

Classical Gas
I don’t remember much about ’76, but the gas crisis? Vivid. Twice a week Mom shoved me into the family Nova at some tot-hating hour for a three-block drive to an eternal procession, where we sat. And sat. And sat. The sign outside my window read either GAS TODAY! or HA, HA CORY. Thank God I get to relive that terror as an adult; I always wanted a gas crisis of my very own.
Check this outYou can't see it, but the sign in the picture says gas is 87 cents per gallon. Dunno about you, but I’d kill for that price.
