Film Flops And Fiascoes
Do you remember the days when a movie studio would pour a ton of money into a film and then release it in theaters whether it was good or bad? Thanks to that tried-and-true practice, the world was able to see "classics" like "Howard the Duck," "Glitter," and "Gigli."
Now, with studios owning cable networks, they think they can slip a sure-to-be-disastrous movie like Lindsay's Lohan's upcoming debacle "Labor Pains" right past us, putting it on ABC Family rather than at the local cineplex. But we’re setting our TiVo and buttering the popcorn. While we wait, we're looking back at some of our favorite Hollywood disappointments and picking our film-flops poster boy (care to guess who it might be?).

I like what Whatever is and was trying to say and agree with your assessment. And it's always sad and disappointing when others feel to push a personal tone when we're all just talking about (just) entertainment here. (we all know about the social injustices of the entertainment world and the world in general, that's one of the reasons we watch movies, to escape the every day madness. Wheather or not a movie was intertaining or just a waste of the public's time. Although you have your right to do so like Whatever said, "this is America", But holy crap! You went off the deep end and started ranting about things and people (personal like) that were not being disscussed. You seem to be (there is one in every crowed) one of those individuals that ALWAYS want to carry the wrongs (or hold the wrongs of your people) of your people against EVERYONE! Like you own the market on that or something. There is an infanite history of such idoisyncrasy that one can gripe about all across the board! Spanning all groups of peoples! And just for the record, I ABHOR ANY UNJUST TREATMENT OF ANY RACE OR PEOPLE, AMERICAN OR OTHERWISE!!! And there have always been bad people out there in the entertainment industry, God! when was THAT never an issue! It's pretty much always been about exploitation of others! But you do what you do with it. If you feel so passionately about it, start your own blog, we're just wanting to talk about these movies and wheather we liked them and agree or disagree with the critic's oppinions of them.....shesh!....

Artjazz54 First of all I am an Indian or for the politicaly correct native american. so stop with 400 years trip. And did you know that blacks were sold into slavery by blacks in Africa. If anyone has the right to be pissed off its the American Indian. I am proud of my heritage but at the end of the day I consider myself to be an " AMERICAN" not a white, brown, yellow or whatever color you seem to have a problem with. This was a forum for bad films and you have turned it into a race war. But that is fine because this is America. And you have the right to hate "WHITEY" and Will Smith thats what you come back with. Out of all the great black actors there are out there. You don't watch many films do you. Terrance Howard, Morgan Freeman, Denzell Washington or Sam Jackson. And you picked Mr.Smith. You sure your not Jazzy Jeff. Peace

heads up, ladies: a wise critic would stay away from bashing Dune. Do you have ANY background in religious studies--Joseph Campbell, perhaps? How about a background in rabid, religiously devoted fans? I can't remember a time in my life when I DIDN'T know this story. While the Sci-Fi channel's miniseries followed the book more closely, the David Lynch movie did a phenomenal job of capturing the scope and weight of the novel. The whole movie feels like a religious revelation. And gory, give me a break! Have you been watching any Japanese imports lately? Ichi the Killer is gory (and a lot of fun). As is frequently the case, I find myself disappointed with mainstream movie critics, though I can't actually disagree with your opinion of Gigli or Glitter. But, then again, I generally despise anything marketed to females. If Hollywood is right about women, then Muad'dib save us all.

I love the movie Dune and any Kevin Costner movie he has ever made, I am a woman and the women who wrote this only like chic flicks, I not only buy the movies I watch them everytime they are on tv instead of some dumb soap. I love scifi and all that, my thing was the original Star Trek series I was only a teenager then. All Bruce Willis, Will Smith, Dustin Huffman, Kurt Russell with Goldie are great movies. I would love to see more out today with Eddie Murphy in them. I have not missed one of John Travoltas' movies yet. Those two must have been watching the wrong movies or just drinking their breakfast thur dinner. What nuts are out there today they would not know what was good if it bit them.

Back at Whatever & Tshitdude if its all about stats and Benjamin’s then how was it possible for Sidney Portier back in the mid sixties to become the top male box office draw, or for Will Smith to be the current top box office draw. That's BS man and you both know that. Sidney spent his career saving white people and or teaching them morals and self-righteousness, and of course Will is the non-threatening Blackman who never finds any wrong in white people, and also save white people. In addition, you scream racism, yet ever time you assume someone black is playing the race card, you counter with the same racism you imply, suggesting ignorance or worst. In-fact, you both prove my point for me by you racist responses, read more on the history of discrimination, civil rights, and the struggle for self-respect by black people in America. Also, why is it that every time new pretty black or Hispanic female emerges, Hollywood pairs her up with a white male, yet the biggest Black Male or Hispanic male stars can never play opposite the biggest non white female star. The facts are, every time a black female is discovered or resurrected by black producers, directors and such, she becomes a target for whites in the entertainment industry who exploit minority women by pairing them with white men. They either become big stars like Halle Barry, Gabrielle Union, or Joy what’s or name. They then disappear from the scene, or become off-limits to black men; again, just like Halle, Gabrielle, or Joy what’s or name. And lets not forget Randy from American White Idol; he of course is just a house nigger! Like Oprah, his sole purpose is to promote whites and advance their dominance in entertainment, and glorify their very presence. The pay is good, just ask Whoopi, or Oprah, who all know to well, that whites will always fill the coffers of Negroes who idolize them and pander to their every whim. Also, Randy and others like him want to turn the Hip-Hop music business into what Hollywood is to White Females, a Welfare State for talent less white kids. And as far as your welfare comments, whites have always received more than blacks, including the 400 years of black slavery and forced concubine, along with government sponsored Jim crow, harassment, and other indignities forced upon blacks after the emancipation. I would bet there are a lot of whites that use to work on Wall Street, and other financial areas, who wish they could get welfare and food stamps.

Just because a crictic says a movie isn't any good doesn't mean it's not a good movie. Such as Keving Costner's Waterworld. To really get the story you have to watch it a few times and get the true story. Just watching a movie once you can't get the whole movie. You are so jacked up on the special effects and what is going on, plus the sound ripping through the theatre your brain just can't capture all that is going on on the screen. I've gone back and watched a movie on dvd and picked up on things that I've missed. Also just because a movie doesn't make close to a billion dollars doesn't make it a blockbuster. A critic should watch a movie a few times before he writes up a review. I've seen waterworld a few time and the postman and in thier own they are both great movies. And bashing the L. R. Hubbard movie Battlefield earth is like dreaming and pissing in bed because you dreamed it. It's called entertainment. It not called Make a blockbuster each time you make a movie. I thought battlefield earth was a good movie for being a sci-fi. Some movies are so stupid yet get so many awards you wonder who is giving the damn things out. These actors not only put their money into the movies, but their time and emotional toll into them also. Learn to see a movie for what it is, entertainment. So just sit back and enjoy, its made for relaxation and enjoy the show.

And you said glitter and gigli is a classic movie? Oh come on cut the crap, didn't I hear right that Mariah Carey almost have a nervouse break down because this movie flops..?
And say classics when the two movies have been rated D.. I must be dreaming ... Or else perhaps I'm in another universe?.. What a bad sense of humor.. It gives me headache I guess?..
