If you want to play it safe and live by the rules, don't be a stand-up comedian. Some people think it's tough being a cop or a fireman, but if you really want to put it all on the line, night after night, get up on a bare stage with nothing more than a microphone and start speaking your mind.
Some comedians like to make the already formidable art form downright dangerous by going after the government, the rich and famous, racial and religious groups, and even the poor schmo from Schenectady who just happened to be sitting in the front row. Denis Leary is stirring up controversy with his new book (Why We Suck: A Feel-Good Guide to Staying Fat, Loud, Lazy and Stupid) for a rant about autism that many feel crosses the line. what about Dangerfield, Murphy, and Allen!
Bill "mare" is as about as controversial as Bob Saget....and as dull too!
Margaret Cho or Rosanne would eat Kathy Griffin for lunch in comedy!
Chris Rock needs to go back to Madagascar...because voicing cartoons is about all he is good at!
