Although no one would doubt the influence and enduring legacy of Ray Charles before his death, his career got the biggest bounce imaginable in 2004. A biopic starring Jamie Foxx was due in theaters that fall, preceded by an all-star duets record called "Genius Loves Company." The entire campaign was destined to resuscitate Charles' career. While clearly a legend, the last two decades had been marked with a series of mediocre albums and oldies shows. Charles died before the album or film were released, sending the posthumous hit-making machine into overdrive. "Genius Loves Company" was the best-selling disc of Ray's career and won eight Grammys. Meanwhile, the film introduced a new generation of people to Ray's music. Plus, it gave Jamie Foxx a recording career.
