Today marks the 25th Anniversary of The Day After, the TV movie event depicting life in the wake of a nuclear attack on America. When it first aired, we lost weeks of sleep worrying about a mushroom cloud engulfing our childhood bedroom.
Maybe the same innate human instinct that makes us rubberneck at a car accident on the side of the road also drives us to theaters to see disaster movies. Maybe it’s just these films are usually so bad that they make tragedy somehow funny. Either way, we love a good disaster film…but we especially love a BAD disaster film.
