i loved Welcome back kotter...it reminded me of high school when there were so many different types of kids and that a few of our teachers were cool like kotter!

I can't believe that you've overlooked David Kelley's 4 season gem, "Boston Public". I also wish that the "Fame" series could be rerun so today's generation can see how good that show was.

the funniest part is, while not supposed to be a exact depiction, of the city of lima there are SO many things that are far to coincidentaly similar lol. Only major difference, our city highschool has a daycare and thiers has a celibacy club :)

Shows like Glee are not meant to mimic "real life". They are for our entertainment, and you can tell just by the plot lines and characters. Who really breaks out in into song whenever there's some kind of drama? The show is perfectly aware that it plays into all of the typical cliched teenage stereotypes, and it's obvious that we should as well. Not all shows have to be written alike or for the same purpose. That's why these things are broken down into different genres. I don't think it's supposed to be realistic or even thought provoking. It's doing it's job as a purely entertaining program.

As a high school teacher in the inner city I don't see any of these shows reflecting real-life. However having a sibbling in a suburban high school and attending conferences at other schools across the state, some while instruction is taking place at the choice school, I must admit that Degrassi and Degrassi the New Generation best represents suburban high school. Funny thing is, these shows(Degrassi) are Canadian but they do an accurate depiction of suburban high school in America which just goes to show the writers did their research if they can reflect both cultures while writing for one specifically.
If you want to see Hollywood depict an innercity highschool watch the movie from the 80's "Lean On Me" Whether here in Buffalo NY or in Cleveland OH, this best depicts reality regardless of the time. The only changes are style of dress and some of the lingo. Trust me, you will never say teachers have an easy job, at least those in the innercity don't!

I'm offended that the last one is a blatant plug for that crappy thirtysomething DVD...you couldn't think of one more show to put there? Maybe The White Shadow? Parker Lewis Can't Lose? Not even the TV version of Ferris Bueller?
