Wanna Be a Pop Star? Here's the Secret Formula
Now that the whole "American Idol" posse is hitting the road for a summer tour, we all get our chance to see pop-star royalty in the flesh. Yeah, we all vote, but we know we're not the ones who are really behind the Idols. Creating a pop star is an art form passed down by star-makers through the ages. Every generation has an impresario with questionable morality who turns some backwoods hick into a sensation. The "American Idol" judges are the latest in a long line of star-makers who have made - and broken - starry-eyed kids for half a century. Since most of us will never have a Simon Cowell or some other overbearing know-it-all to mold us, here's some free advice: the Secrets to Pop Music Stardom. No commission necessary. Here's a secret you forgot. These bozos must have talent and the ability to sell units. But the real secret is how the creator, producers, songwriters, production companies pimp these fools who will do anything to be in front of a camera and famous even if it's less than 15 minutes.
