Eddie Vedder, gas station attendant
In 1990, Eddie Vedder was spending his time surfing in San Diego and getting over the breakup of his band, Bad Radio. At night he worked as an attendant at a gas station. During this period Vedder wrote lyrics for what would become "Alive," "Once," and "Footsteps" as an audition for a Seattle band looking for a singer. He passed the audition and quit the gas station job to work with that band, Temple of the Dog, formed by Soundgarden's Chris Cornell and Mother Love Bone's Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament as a tribute to the latter group's fallen vocalist, Andrew Wood. After Temple closed shop, Vedder joined Gossard, Ament, and Mike McCready and became first Mookie Blaylock, then Pearl Jam. Vedder still surfs, but someone else fills up the tour bus.

I thought Simon LeBon of Duran Duran would've made this list. Before joining the group, he was a hospital porter, a milkman's assistant and a tree surgeon!! I think he's best as vocalist...without a doubt!
