Musicians Who Have Jumped the Shark
Rod Stewart: Releasing "It Had to Be You: The Great American Songbook" in 2002.
I'm being charitable here. Most would agree that Rod jumped the shark once the '80s came around. (Anyone remember 1983's "Body Wishes"?) Still, for fans clinging to hopes of a great Faces turnaround, those dreams were dashed forever when Rod the Mod reinvented himself as a third-rate Frank Sinatra, crooning standards for any hockey mom willing to listen.

Gene Simmons is nasty and always has been. And Shannon is making a giant fool out of herself staying with a man-boy like him who will never make a commitment. You go girl, you're a prisoner to a nobody*~

I heard this read this morning on Mark & Brian and had to come on here to let you know how misguided and off base you are on several of these artists. Aerosmith has been consistently amazing and have maintained their image and sound throughout their career. Audioslave's debut album is an absolute masterpiece. And Elvis on Colbert's x'mas special was hilarious BECAUSE of Elvis's rebel past - sorry you didn't get the "inside' joke! McGrath was a sellout from the word "go." Sugar Ray was as annoying and disposable as Smashmouth....And I hated Poison but LOVE Rock of Love because it doesn't even try to be anything but a skank-fest and Bret is clearly laughing right along with us.

aerosmith fan here, since high school. and trust me, that's a long time. i think it's super cool steven tyler recorded that song for his daughter, in true aero-flair. AND that they have had the guts to clean up their act, can still rock and do an interview without looking glassy eyed and washed up. way to go aerosmith!! (bret michaels needs to give up the ghost and just QUIT already, i think everyone is sick of his quest to see how many nasty strippers he can bed eewwwww).

I feel the need to clarify something really important here regarding Aerosmith. As someone who has been clean and sober for almost 3 years and comes from a family that has battled addiction on both sides, addiction is NOT MERELY A "BAD HABIT" Addiction is a life-threatening disease that we battle every day sometimes every minute of every day for the rest of our lives. Addicts fight and overcome their destructive personalities and urges. To imply that because one chooses life and to be a better person inside-out is to be an inferior artist is not only ignorant and selfish, it's dangerous. I would rather have Aerosmith sober, clean and living their life to the best of their ability than drunk, strung out but making what the author considers good music. They don't need to join the club that Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Keith Moon and countless others have joined.

Ya'll need to leave theese artists alone!
They got fans out there are that love to see them, and they're making money at it.
My cousin ,who lives in Las Vagas sells her ass to make ends meet in this receccion. And maybe thats the only thing they know.
Some call it desperation, I call it survival.

I don't agree with the aerosmith one - he did that song because his daughter was in the movie - I saw an interview where he talked about watching a scene where she was crying and he basically said he'd do what she wanted because she looked so sad. Thats just a dad, and anyone who doesn't agree has never had a child lay the puppydog eyes on them.

You should all realize that this is all a matter of opinion. Bret Michaels and his band (Poison) mad it BIG in their time. Yes, they were outperformed by bands like GNR but they're a great band in their own way. Jeez. Everyone's a critic. You think you all can do better than any of them or at least achieve even half of their popularity? They have their own legion of fans during their time and some of them (if not all) still do. If they are addicted to the fame, want to continue making a living, or simply can't give up the thing they love most or can't leave the industry they've known all their lives, it's their right and their business. They're not offending anyone or stepping on anyone's toes so let's just leave them alone for cryin' out loud!

Anyone who's surprised at what Brett Michaels is doing is not paying attention to his career. The guy sold out musically from the very start. I mean what talent did he ever display except for flashing his abs & moosing up his hair. Is he a great lyricist? Ah no! Did he ever display a voice to be envied? NOT! To say Pop stars R legitimate musicians who care about the music they play is fooling themselves. They're all in it for the superficial & monetary gain. I mean to even consider Poison at any point as anything but gimmick sell outs is asinine. What was the point of this article. I think the disappointment of real musicians selling out like Led Zeppelin or Metalica should be written about even more. Now those R legitimate bands w/legitimate music from legitimate musicians.
