Surprising Facts About Tom Hanks
In 1994, Hanks won the Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of a gay, AIDS-afflicted attorney in "Philadelphia." In his acceptance speech he thanked his high school drama teacher, Rawley Farnsworth, referring to him along with a former classmate as "two of the finest gay Americans." Only problem: Farnsworth was still in the closet at the time, so Tom accidentally outed him on worldwide TV. The moment inspired the movie "In and Out," starring Matt Dillon as an actor who inadvertently reveals the same secret about his high school English teacher, played by Kevin Kline. Perhaps as penance, Hanks helped fund renovations for the newly renamed Rawley T. Farnsworth Theater at his alma mater, Skyline High School in Oakland, California, in 2002.

Did any of you useless tabloid bottom feeding twats notice that I used the word PERSONAL? Not likely, because the people that read this stuff don't think anyone has a life that they can't have access to. A word for those who have nothing better to do than concern themselves about others in the spotlight... pathetic."

jesslisby said "I think that larry is doing wonderful by dannielynn. he is not perfect or claiming to be. he tries to be the best dad to her and to give her everything that she needs. he is a wonderful man, and loving....so dannielynn will turn out to be the same way...good kuck in the future..."

What type of mother is that. if sunny was to stay with her mother, she would only learn to be a horrible person with no morals or values. is that what you would want for your child or yourself growing up. sunny is a child yes....but she knows tha jesse and sandra are trying to protect her and give her a good life. at least sandra cares about her and loves her..."

To stay "on topic"as to the original question...
My fav Tom Hanks moment, is is Oscar acceptance speech where he mentions Rawley T. Farnsworth - his HS drama teacher and friend.
As to peoples reaction to his barrage of remarks against Mormons re: Prop 8 - as I researched this, I beleive he went on to apologise and retract his statements saying that "As Americans, they (Californians) voted their conscience and they did that (or something to that effect).
I knew Mr. Farnssworth personally and Mr. Hanks came back and did amazing good things for the City of Oakland and Skyline HS. Nice that he could include a dedication to include Mr. Farnsworth in the process.
To Mr. Hanks from one shy student who found her muse within the boundaries of the Drama dept. at Skyline, to another, let's re-live the night of 1000 kazoos sometime soon, sir.

pmajesti...
That was a fairly poor source to quote. Even Wikipedia panned Joel A. Roger's Five Negro Presidents as
" In the latter, he provided what he said was evidence that there had been 19th and 20th century presidents of the United States who had partial black ancestry. His research was superficial and poorly sourced.
But then I'm sure you have a source that states waterboarding as safe as a swim in a kiddy pool.

wow... all these people saying that he has NO morals for his marital history. how you can say that someone has NO morals?? are you PERFECT in your everyday life?
i mean, would it have HONESTLY been better for him to stay in a loveless facade of a marriage while he was in love with somebody else? its situations like that, that lead to spousal murder-suicides. among other FAR WORSE things.
he fell in love with someone else. big deal! things happen, people sometimes think they've found their soulmate, and they marry that person, and find out years later, that they might have possibly been wrong. it happens.
people might shoplift, and then go back later and decide that they'd rather fess up and pay for the item they stole... does that make them not have ANY MORALS at all?
don't be so biased, i mean... at least the guy hasn't been married 12 times in 10 years. that should say SOMETHING about the guy... maybe he was right in going with the woman who truly IS his match. and you never know... maybe his ex wife has found her one true match also... the article doesn't delve into that, so you judgemental asses don't know do you?
geez... the guy makes one SMALL mistake in his life, and people starting saying that he has absolutely no morals. get lives.. i'm sure you've ALL got skeletons in the closet too.

I have a brother-in-law just like "pmajesti". He loves the history of WWII but won't watch " Band of Brothers" because it was produced by Hanks and Speilberg . Another extremely narrowed-minded politico ! They have to drag politics into everything. Sheeesh. Get a life

Tom Hanks is the James Stewart of our era. No doubt. A great actor in many great films and NOT in the tabloids.
If I were an actor/celebrity I would certainly want to be in the same position. I think it would take a special effort on the part of most celebrities in the public eye to avoid all the gossip rags as well as he has managed to do.I am an artist by trade, and would love to be well known, but I would hate being in the public eye and the subject of gossip. I admire Mr. Hanks ability to stay in the limelight, yet avoid it at the right times.

I will always favor Tom Hanks movies and as one comment said even "Joe vs the Valcano" it was a silly movie but Meg Ryan was priceless. I'm sure he deserves any benefits he gets as for his private life leave it private. I don buy the Enquirer wouldn't believe what any tabloid says about any celebrity unless that celebrity says its so on a talk show.

Applying 21st century moral standards to Lincoln's day is ridiculous. Today, we hear how George Washington was a racist because he owned slaves and now this quote from Abe Lincoln. This is ignorance in it's purest form. When these great men lived their world existed under a different norm. Had they somehow been able to live until 2009, do you really think they would have the same values?
