The Doors
The Doors, 1968
It all started when two casual acquaintances, Jim Morrison and Ray Manzarek, met on Venice Beach and started to talk about music. Together with Ray’s yoga and mediation class buddies, Robby Krieger and John Densmore, they formed the Doors. What came next was eight years of poetic, cryptic, psychedelic rock, some legendary acid trips, and a very famous arrest for indecent exposure. Now that’s rock 'n' roll. The band kept it together for a bit after Morrison’s untimely death but ultimately faded away. Over 20 years later, Ray and Robby found they couldn’t replace The Lizard King (especially not with Ian Astbury of the Cult) and have been legally barred from using the name "The Doors of the 21st Century,” or any form of the Doors name for that matter. So check your local listing for the next appearance of Riders of the Storm if you need to hear “Light My Fire” live anytime soon.
