The name UB40 came from the forms filled out for UK unemployment
(Unemployment Benefit, Form 40). But none of the eight members have
been unemployed for a very long time. The British reggae band, which
got its start as an opening act for The Pretenders, has sold over 70
million records and have had more than 50 hit singles on the UK charts,
including "Red Red Wine" and "Can't Help Falling In Love," which both
went to #1 in the U.S. Thirty years later lead singer Ali Campbell
announced he was leaving the group to pursue his solo career. Now
that’s a labor of love. Here’s our FlipBook of the band through the years.
