Willie and Phil
Director Paul Mazursky's follow-up to his 1978 hit An Unmarried Woman found this filmmaker creating a feature-length homage to the François Truffaut classic Jules and Jim. Willie and Phil begins with Jewish intellectual schoolteacher Willie (Michael Ontkean) meeting gregarious Italian-American fashion photographer Phil (Ray Sharkey) at a screening of Jules and Jim. The two hit it off immediately and soon find their circle of two expanding to three when they meet Jeanette (Margot Kidder), a free-spirited Southerner who has moved to New York City to figure out her life. Jeanette soon moves in Willie, but the three find themselves in a romantic triangle that constantly shifts over the next nine years as each of the three struggles to find their destiny while honoring the love they feel for each other. On Worst Talk Shows in History...pepe said "Honestly, Jimmy Kimmel is the worst to me. What is he exactly? He's not charming, witty, or quick on his feet during his monologue, he's terrible with guests and he always looks half asleep. I will never understand how/why ABC either chose him or why after this long he's still on the air. It's baffling!!!!"

It had a slightly fresher approach than what's being lauded today (Rachel Raye? Please!). I don't think it would've won awards given a longer run, but it certainly didn't reek of 'middle child syndrome', either. "

That was a very funny show during the 70s, with the first set of comedians but, like Magic Johnson, Chevy Chase was a flop when he got his own show. And Alf was just too strange--he was just awful--a disaster! I really hated Alf, really did not like that character! Wasn't cute or adorable. Didn't like him at all. Still don't!"

On Worst Talk Shows in History...fed-up said "There are too many talk shows on TV already. Seems as though the TV decision makers are stuck on stupid. Talk shows--full of no-talented, vain people--sitting around on sofas or stools, talking about their favorite subject--THEMSELVES! Everybody talking at once, some with their mouths full of food. Next favorite seems to be more stupid Reality shows and this is mainly all they seem to think about. Some have their personal favorites they keep pushing for, to keep them on the airwaves such as, different actors being cast in newer versions of CSI and Law and Order, or another judge show with people who usually have no class or style, appearing in front of an audience and the judge in order to display to the world their pitiful, non-life, while looking for unearned sympathy from the spectators. Wanda Sykes is an uncouth, unlady-like, mannish, individual--and she has a nasty mouth, so although I already know I won't be watching, I'm sure her talk show will remain on the air. "
